Rhinoplasty

Located in the middle of our face the nose is always in the focus. The nose should be in harmony with the rest of our face.
As every person and every face is different so the nose should be also different.

A nose which looks natural and aestethic fits the face best.

In the past the outcome of nose operations were most time the same every nose looks similar. But nowadays most plastic surgeons and patients prefer a natural nose. Before our patients are coming to us they already investigate this issue and also monitor the operation itself from different websites. They have already to much information about the technical details which the doctor should know. I don’t believe that this is very helpful because the patients are getting confused and this leeds to more stress.

When you are planning the operation you have to understand what the patient really wants. The communication between the surgeon and the patient is very important.

Even I’m making nose operations for many years every nose that I operate looks different because every face is different.
Once you understand the patient’s wishes when I’m planning the nose surgery I calculate the measuring with the computer and decide the most appropriate shape of the nose.

Rhinoplasty Surgery Process

  1. Will my breathing problems be solved when the intervention is on the outside of my nose? Or will it more difficult for me to breathe after this operation?
Endoscopic examination of the patient is made before and during the operation. If there is a swelling in the nasal concha or within the curvature this will be also solved during the operation.
  2. Which operation technique is better open or closed rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is performed either using a closed procedure or an open procedure.
I prefer the open procedure in general because with this technique you have more control about the nose. By optimal conditions I also use the closed technique.
  3. Will my nasal tip be hanging after the surgery?
Well, 10 years ago hanging nasal tips (hanging columella) was frequently seen. But nowadays with developing techniques we almost don’t see hanging nasal tip anymore.
  4. I’m afraid of general anesthesia can this operation be done without?
I’am doing the surgery under general anesthesia in the proper conditions at the operating room. There is no need to worry about general anesthesia. There is no reason to be nervous because of the modern developements by the anaesthesia equipments and the medications which are used.
  5. How long will the surgery last ? Will I be under anesthesia for a long time?
My surgeries takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. If the patients previously had an operation elsewhere and this will be the 2nd or 3rd time the operation may extend to 2 hours.
  6. How many days will I be in the hospital?
You can have the operation in the morning and be at home in the evening. Or you can stay in the hospital for one day.
  7. I’m very afraid of the nasal tampons.
If the patients don’t have any breathing problems and I’m just doing a cosmetic nose operations I don’t use tampons. But if I’m also going to interfere with breathing than I am using the nasal tampons. Nasal tampons are from material which is melting itself inside the nose or from silicon with holes insite so that the patient can breath. In the past to take out the nasal tampons was a nightmare for patients. Even the patients said ‘Doctor, I did not have that much pain during the surgery’. However, this problem is resolved today with the latest developments and the advanced new nasal tampons. Today the patients don’t feel anything most times they are asking ‘Is the tampon out now?.
  8. How many days do I have to use tampons?
The tampons will be removed after 2-3 days.
  9. Did you put the plaster on the nose? How many days left?
I do not use nose plaster. 7 days after surgery intervention if plastic nose splint bone I set.
  10. Does it leave a scar after surgery?
There will be no scar after the operation. In fact, the incision is made just below the nose. However, it will disapear within 6 months. In fact, sometimes it heals so fast that we wonder where we made the cut.
  11. Will I have bruises after the surgery?
If there will be an intervention at the bone structure depending on the patient’s skin there can be little bruises around the eye within5 to 10 days . Latest 10 days after the surgery there will be no problem except a mild edema.
  12. I’m very afraid of the pain.
One of the most important points patients are afraid of is the pain.Due special techniques during the operation and postoperative care after the surgery the patient will not feel any pain.
  13. When can I start to work again?
My advice to my patients is to calculate with 7-10 days. However, my patients can go out at the 2nd day. Can I undergo a nose operation again? That scares me so much? 5-7% of the patients can get a second nose surgery. 95% of patients do not have any complications. Because the cartilage has its so called memory and therefore it is movable. We don’t have this problems. However, if this happen this problem can be solved with a small 15-minute intervention under local anesthesia.
